Good In Bed deals with sexuality in a way that is fearless and yet surprisingly fun, dovetailing the stories of a group of couples, both straight and gay, in different stages of their life (20 – 55 years of age). There is no nudity so that the play will appeal not only to the adventurous souls in the audience, but to those still wrestling with their inner prude.
Sex is everywhere in the media but often presented in a negative way or else idealized in a manner that has very little to do with the real human experience. In contrast, Good In Bed’s light and witty approach is meant to disarm and delight while also inviting the audience to consider new and surprising insights into the realities of fantasy and human sexuality.

Good In Bed
is a funny, provocative series of vignettes exploring the humanity beneath the kink in that most sacred of places … our beds.
Some are poignant, some are sexy and some are downright kinky. All of them are fresh and lots of fun.
The cast is made up of 6 actor/singers – an equal number of women and men in their early 20’s, mid-30’s, mid-50’s – playing a variety of characters. The set is very minimalist. A bed. Two night tables. Only the bedspread and pillows and a piece of art over the bed changes with each vignette.
Much of what we currently see in theatre and cinema dealing frankly with sexuality has been written from the male experience. Good in Bed offers a “fair and balanced” exploration of the intimacy inherent in relationships between men and women, women and women and men and men.
I am fascinated with revealing the humanity beneath the kink, and with exploring how our sexuality impacts our lives and relationship to each other as explicitly as I can without any nudity. Much of my past work in art, film and theatre follows this same theme, True Tales of Seduction (Play), Naked Men Through the Eyes of Women (art series) and Sullivan’s Last Call, an award-winning short film I wrote & directed that garnered the review, “It’s so sexy, you’ll feel like having a cigarette afterwards!”

Good in Bed has been mounted and performed two nights as a work-in-progress staged reading at Dixon Place in Manhattan, an experimental theatre/performance art space. The play was extremely well-received and the feedback was quite encouraging and surprising. When polled, even the most conservative woman said “Oh, NO! You write them in such an open way, I was laughing too much to be shocked.”
The vignette April Showers was produced this summer at City Theatre in Florida.
